<p>A method for controlling a mobile computer device having a touch-sensitive display which displays a graphical user interface (GUI) comprises; detecting a predetermined input touch gesture being applied to the display, where no visual prompt for the gesture is displayed by the device; and changing a state of the mobile device in response to detecting the gesture. Since no visual prompt or clue about the gesture is displayed, the associated functionality could be taken to be part of a hidden supplementary user interface (HUI) disposed over the GUI. The change of state might comprise executing an application, changing an operating mode, locking the mobile device or switching off/turning on the mobile device. The predetermined input gesture might comprise a drawn shape, a drag, a pinch or a swipe/stroke. The user might provide input which defines the predetermined gesture.</p> |
