<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce or eliminate influence of joints respectively between sensor chips on an image quality. <P>SOLUTION: An image reader comprises: an image sensor provided with plural sensor chips and capable of outputting data in parallel from plural output channels; and a control part which processes image data outputted from the image sensor. The image sensor, which outputs data of not-adjacent sensor chips as continuous data, inserts dummy data between the pieces of output data of the sensor chips to output to the control part.
