A winding mandrel includes first and second spherical main bodies each having a plurality of flat sides and having a plurality of cylindrical posts disposed thereon. The plurality of cylindrical posts disposed on the first main body are aligned with orthogonal x and y axes through this first main body, and the plurality of cylindrical posts disposed on the second main body are aligned with orthogonal x and y axes through this second main body. The first and second spherical main bodies are configured to be angularly offset with respect to each other. A front end cylindrical post and back end cylindrical post are disposed on one or other of the first and second cylindrical main bodies.
