Portable traffic or pedestrian signal with base unit 2 comprising a housing that supports signal head 3, an electrical circuit (20, Fig.4) that controls the signal head and a first connector for connecting said electrical circuit to a removable self-contained battery assembly (11, Fig.2). The battery assembly comprises a housing (16, Fig.3) that releasably engages the base unit (e.g. via cooperating guide rail and groove) and includes a power source (6, Fig.3) and a second connector for engaging with the first connector to connect the power source to the electrical circuit. The battery assembly and base unit can be separated for recharging or replacing the power supply without it being lifted out of the housing. The base unit may include support means 17 for supporting it on the ground. The signal may communicate with another signal via two-way radio communication. |
