An energy dispensing device 10 comprises a base station 11 having at least one outlet port 12 for supplying energy, at least one inlet port 13 for receiving energy, an input device 14 for receiving codes and a processor that processes received codes. The device further comprises an energy storage device 16 that is capable of being charged and releasing energy, wherein the base station 11 and the storage device 16 perform a handshaking operation before energy is transferred to the base station 11 and the processor controls the amount of energy released from the storage device 16 based on information contained in the received codes. The inlet port 13 may receive energy from solar panels. The processor may prevent the release of energy from the storage device when a predetermined amount of energy is used up, when the energy in the storage device falls below a threshold level and/or upon detection of tampering. A charging system may comprise the dispensing device 10, a charging device for charging the energy storage 16 and a server having a code generator. A user may pay for credits in order to be provided with a code via a mobile payment method. |
