[Classes 14 (i) and 14 (ii)] Fermentation, particularly for yeast, is carried out in a vessel provided with an ascension conduit into the bottom of which air or other gas is injected so as to effect aeration, the aerated mass rising up the conduit into a second vessel, which may or may not be provided with an ascension conduit. A series of such vessels may be provided, Figs. 2 and 3, which may be in communication also at the bottom. The gas separating from the aerated mass in an intermediate vessel B, Fig. 3, may be used to aerate the mass in the next vessel. The fermentation may be carried out on the counter current principle. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also apparatus in which the aerated mass rises up an ascension conduit and returns to the same vessel, various forms being shown. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
