[Class 6 (ii)] Grain-sprouting apparatus comprises a house or other building a, Fig. 1, with hot water or other heating system b for maintaining it at a substantially constant temperature, and cabinets therein each containing a plurality of compartments c the heights of which increase from the lowermost up, whereby the trays e on which the grain is carried may be moved to a higher compartment as the growth continues. The cabinets are made of wood lined with sheet metal and have each a container d for holding water and a drain cock c<2>. The grain is supported within the containers d on trays e with legs e<1> and perforated sheet metal bottom plates, the trays being, where necessary, strengthened by angle iron boundary and cross members. The fronts of the compartments are closed by detachable sheet metal panels c<1>. A tank f is mounted above the compartments to which it supplies the water at 70-80‹ F., through a hose f<1>. The drain cocks c<2> may be opened simultaneously, e.g. by connection by chains &c. to an external pull device to discharge into a common pipe delivering into a gutter laid along the top of or between the hot water pipes to conserve the heat. A small supply of fresh water is fed to the gutter from a small tank outside the house a supplied with rain water or from the mains. The water from the gutter runs through a charcoal filter into a collecting tank from which it is pumped by a small rotary pump to the tank f. A sprouting chemical may be added to the water. The collecting tank may be located adjacent the hot water pipes band has a perforated tray top which is partly filled with the charcoal filtering medium. |
