A system comprises a computer which receives a word input, which is determined to be specified as a command in a plurality of grammars (i.e. the word conflicts with at least two commands), each grammar being associated with a respective application; and where the application to which to apply the command is selected according to a status of the application with respect to a human machine interface associated with the application. Each application may be included on a computing device separate from the computer, and the input may be voice input in a vehicle. The computer may register a plurality of grammars, and registering an application grammar may include determining whether a grammar conflicts with another grammar already registered in the computer, and rejecting a command when the command is reserved by a system grammar. |
