[Class 100 (iii)] Clamping matrices; moulds.-In means for casting slugs having at one or both ends portions of decreased height, on which printing- plates may be supported, one or both of the vice-jaws are provided with projections or ribs, which extend over the entire length of the jaws, and engage in corresponding grooves in the front surface of the mould. The ribs 15, 16, Fig. 1, are preferably formed on slides fitting into dovetail recesses in the jaws, and the slides also carry rails 19, 20, adapted to enter the usual matrix-aligning groove 21, Fig. 5, in the face of the mould 4. The ribs are of greater width than the distance between the upper and lower walls 23, 24 of the mould slot, and their upper and lower walls may be inclined, as shown in Fig. 5, or may be at rightangles to the face of the mould. The rails 19, 20, which engage the aligning-groove 21, project beyond the ribs, so as to ensure the engagement of the ribs with the recess in the mould. The rails also support the jaws against upward pressure during justification. |
