<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element which achieves both high photoelectric conversion efficiency and high durability while maintaining the advantages of using a solid hole transport layer. <P>SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element consists of a lamination structure including a photoreceptor layer having a semiconductor fine particle layer adsorbing a dye, a solid hole transport layer, and a counter electrode formed on a conductive support. The dye has an aliphatic group A of the carbon number 5-18 and is represented by formula (1). (In the formula, Q represents a tetravalent aromatic group. X<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, X<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represent a sulfur atom, an oxygen atom, or CR<SP POS="POST">1</SP>R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>. P<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, P<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represent a die residue. P<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represents an atom group required for forming a polymethine dye.
