The subject matter disclosed herein relates to intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) (42), and, more specifically, to systems and methods for initial configuration or commissioning of IEDs (42) after installation. In an embodiment, a system includes an intelligent electronic device (IED) configuring system (60) having an IED (42) that is configured with a wireless network configuration prior to deployment that enables the IED (42) to automatically connect to a particular wireless network (73) when it is detected. The IED configuring system (60) also includes an IED configuring device (62) configured to host the particular wireless network (73) according to the wireless network configuration of the IED (42). Furthermore, the IED configuring device (62) is configured to communicate a plurality of configuration settings to the IED (42) via the wireless network (73) to commission the IED (42) once the IED (42) has connected to the wireless network (73). |
