<p>A vehicle seat having a carriage that is linearly movable with respect to a base, and a locking apparatus comprising first and second components, each having a respective set of teeth that interengage such that, during movement of the carriage with respect to the base, one of said first and second toothed components imparts movement to the other via the respective teeth, the locking apparatus further comprising a locking member having a set of teeth formed thereon for selectively inter-engaging the teeth of the first and second components, the locking member being movable between a non-locking state, wherein the teeth of the locking member do not engage the teeth of either of said first and second components, an intermediate state, wherein the teeth of the locking member engage the teeth of the first component, and a locking state, wherein the teeth of the locking member engage with the teeth of both of said first and second components to prevent relative movement between the first and second components, the locking member being moved between its intermediate and locking states by virtue of movement of the first component with respect to the second component.</p> |
