A karabiner 1, for use with a fall arrest system (e.g. for connection to one or more self-retracting lifelines or the D-ring of a safety harness), comprises of a frame 16 and an openable gate 17, the frame having a bridge portion 18 which bridges for one side of the karabiner to the other (optionally positioned opposite the gate). In one embodiment the bridge portion is curved to form a hanging loop and is optionally substantially at right angles to the axis of the gate. In another embodiment the bridge portion comprises in line frame portions 20, 21 which extend from the gate in opposing directions substantially in line with one another, connected to respective outwardly directed portions 22, 23 which are connected together by the bridge portion of the frame. |
