<p>A compressor 300 comprising a housing 302 defining a plurality of compression chambers 304, a drive shaft 318 extending through the housing, a rotor 320 attached to the drive shaft and having an inclined surface, a rotationally fixed follower 322, for example a swash or planet plate, in sliding engagement with the inclined surface, and a plurality of pistons 324 connected to the follower, each associated with one of the compression chambers. Preferably, bearings 338 are disposed between the rotor and the follower, the angle of the inclined surface is adjustable so as to adjust the reciprocating distance travelled by the pistons, and the drive shaft can rotate in both directions. A snap ring may secure the follower to the rotor. Also disclosed is a method of manufacture. The compressor can be used in an air-conditioning or refrigeration unit and produces low levels of noise and vibration, as well as being bidirectionally operable.</p> |
