A transfer device comprising: an intermediate transfer belt that is stretched by a plurality of rollers, the intermediate transfer belt configured to transport a toner image on an outer peripheral surface; a second transfer member configured to perform second transfer, the second transfer transferring the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt to a recording medium at a second transfer position where the second transfer member is opposed to the intermediate transfer belt; an opposed member that abuts against an inner peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt, the opposed member being opposed to the second transfer member at the second transfer position; and an abutment member that is located upstream of the second transfer position with respect to a movement direction of the intermediate transfer belt, the abutment member being rotatably arranged so as to contact the inner peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt at a contact point, the contact point of the abutment member with the inner peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt being located on the second transfer member side of a region defined by an imaginary line extended in a direction orthogonal to an imaginary normal, the imaginary normal being drawn to connect a center of the opposed member and a center of the second transfer member at the second transfer position, the imaginary line extending through a point between the second transfer member and the opposed member.
