The present invention relates to an apparatus for purifying an exhaust gas for a ship, including a first purification unit for removing contaminants from an exhaust gas discharged from an engine installed to a ship, a second purification unit which is separated from the first purification unit for removing contaminants from the exhaust gas discharged from the engine, and a control part which stops the operation of the first purification unit if power generated by the engine is less than a predetermined reference power. According to the present invention, operating costs required for driving an engine can be saved by reducing consumed power for removing contaminants from an exhaust gas discharged from engines.
