Security apparatus for ratchet type gunlocks

A security apparatus to prevent unauthorized opening of a ratchet type gunlock. A hook is permanently anchored to the housing of the lock and a groove is provided in the rotatable ratchet arm. When the hook is within the groove this forms, in essence, a closed loop so that the only way to force open the ratchet arm is to break the lock by breaking the hook or the arm even if the gunlock is attempted to be opened by severe force.

A security apparatus to prevent unauthorized opening of a ratchet type gunlock having a pivotal ratchet arm with a plurality of ratchet teeth and having two opposing side plates wherein said ratchet arm is rotatably and releasably attached between said two opposing side plates held together by at least one rivet such that a firearm can be secured to said ratchet type of gunlock, said apparatus comprising:
a hook having a groove engagement portion at a generally right angle to a rivet attachment portion wherein said hook is permanently attached to said at least one rivet of said gunlock via said rivet attachment portion of said hook; a groove in said pivotal ratchet arm of said gunlock, and; wherein said groove having a ratchet wall along said ratchet arm immediately adjacent to said ratchet teeth of said arm and wherein said groove also having an opposite second wall to said ratchet wall along said groove thus providing an engagement length, and; wherein said groove also having a disengagement length provided wherein said ratchet wall does not have an opposite second wall opposing said ratchet wall, and such that; when said groove engagement portion of said hook is within said engagement length of said groove, said gunlock cannot be opened unless said ratchet arm or said hook is broken and; such that when said groove engagement portion of said hook is within the disengagement length of said groove, said gunlock can be easily opened.
