The ring has a composite material including a material component (2) that is formed as a shaping stabilizing component. Another material component of the composite material is formed as a source material (5) that determines a volume change under an influence of moisture. The source material spatially changes a gap-limiting wall surface of the ring, and the former material component includes a geometric shape. The source material is formed with gap width varying properties, and the material components include a different swelling property and/or a different fluid permeability. The source material is selected from biogenic material, wood or thermally treated wood. The composite material including a material component is selected from a polymeric material based on renewable raw materials. An independent claim is also included for a method for constructing device for observing smallest gap width between a rotor and housing of a fluid flow machine. |
