PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge device which properly controls the output of a heating part, and to provide a heating part control method.SOLUTION: A liquid discharge device includes: a head capable of discharging a liquid; a heating part capable of heating a medium to which the liquid is discharged; a detection part which detects energy in a detection range B; a control part capable of changing output of the heating part on the basis of the energy detected by the detection part; a first sensing object part 81 having first thermal characteristics; and a second sensing object part 82 having second thermal characteristics different from the first thermal characteristics. The control part causes the detection part to detect the energy of at least one of the medium, the first sensing object part 81, and the second sensing object part 82.
