Disclosed are a multimedia device and a control method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the control method for the multimedia device includes the steps of: sensing a connection of a first external device; receiving the information regarding the first external device from the first external device; storing the information regarding the first external device in a memory; sensing the connection of the first external device being released; sensing a connection of a second external device; receiving the information regarding the second external device from the second external device; comparing the information regarding the second external device with the information regarding the first external device; and outputting a message according to the comparison result.
