<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel amphoteric surface active agent that has a low skin irritation, exhibits excellent thickening effect in combination with an anionic surface active agent, and is derived from an amino acid skeleton, and provide a method of producing the amphoteric surface active agent in solvent comprising alcohol solvent conveniently and at high yields.SOLUTION: This invention provides an amphoteric surface active agent represented by the general formula (1), where X is O or NH; R is a univalent substituent having a C4 or more alkyl group (excluding an acryloyl group or a methacryloyl group). The amphoteric surface active agent represented by the general formula (1) is synthesized through Michael addition reaction of acrylic acid ester or acrylic acid amide with pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid.</p> |
