Disclosed are a device and a method for supplying power to an audio device. An electronic device can selectively generate one of a first power supply and a second power supply through a microphone terminal in a connection unit of the audio device. The electronic device can identify whether the type of the audio device specifies the audio device to include an additional function unit based on a voltage of the microphone terminal. The electronic device can apply either one of the first and second power supplies corresponding to the type of the audio device to the audio device through the microphone terminal. Other embodiments of the present invention can also be implemented.
