The present invention relates to an air conditioner, and a method to control the same. According to the embodiment of the present invention, an air conditioner comprises: at least one indoor device; an outdoor device connected to the indoor device, including a compressor which compresses coolant; an engine which generates power using a combustion gas and drives the compressor, and a generator which produces power using the power generated by the engine; a battery which receives at least a part of the power generated in the generator; a first supply line which supplies electricity stored in the battery to the outdoor device; and a second supply line which supplies electricity stored in the battery to the indoor device. The battery is charged by the generator or is discharged to the indoor device or outdoor device in accordance to an operational capacity of the indoor device and the outdoor device.
