A liquid crystal display according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a first substrate; a gate line and a common voltage line formed on the first substrate; a gate insulating layer formed on the gate line and the common voltage line; a semiconductor layer formed on the gate insulating layer; a data line and a drain electrode formed on the semiconductor layer; a pixel electrode formed on the data line and the drain electrode; a protection layer on the pixel electrode; a common electrode formed on the protection layer; a second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer located between the first substrate and the second substrate. The pixel electrode is in contact with the drain electrode through a first contact hole. The common electrode is in contact with the common voltage line through a second contact hole formed on the gate insulating layer and the protection layer. The first contact hole and the second contact hole are adjacent to each other within a thin film transistor formation region.
