摘要 <p>present invention provides methods of genetically enhancing the nutritional value and agronomic performance of a nt by providing a stable transgenic plant, and methods for making such a plant, that do not integrate nucleic acids from i-plant species into that plant's genome. The present invention provides a method for producing a stable transgenic nt that exhibits a modified phenotype that is not exhibited by the non-transformed plant, using co-transformation of isiently expressed 'marker vectors', such as 'LifeSupport' vectors, together with another vector that contains the ired native gene. Accordingly, the genotype and phenotype of the transgenic plant is altered using only that selected nt's own native nucleic acid, or using nucleic acid from a plant that is sexually compatible with the selected plant.</p>
