wherein the multi-carbon substrate is not utilized as a carbon source by a reference methanotrophic bacterium; wherein the at least one exogenous nucleic acid encoding a multi-carbon substrate utilization pathway component is expressed in a sufficient amount to permit growth of a recombinant obligate methanotrophic bacterium on the multi-carbon substrate as a primary carbon source or a recombinant facultative methanotrophic bacterium on the multi-carbon substrate as a sole carbon source. |
