The present invention relates to a computer-aided method of defining two-dimensional composite panels (10) to be used in the manufacture of three- dimensional pieces (100), said panels being formed by staking and joining a plurality of plies (p) of composite materials, wherein said method permits to determine by calculation a drape-ability index Dl based on the three-dimension shape of the piece to manufacture and/or of the physical parameters of the panels and to compare said drape-ability index Dl with a threshold value Dlmax, corresponding to the value for which the panels can not be draped correctly.
