Provided is a sleep support device capable of determining whether or not the state of the body of a user is suitable for sleep and capable of changing the state of the body of the user to a state suitable for sleep. The sleep support device (1) comprises: a pair of electrocardiograph electrodes (11, 12) that detect electrocardiographic signals; a photoelectric pulse wave sensor (20) that has a light-emitting element (21) and a light-receiving element (22) and detects photoelectric pulse wave signals; peak detection units (316, 326) that detect the peaks of electrocardiographic signals and photoelectric pulse wave signals; a pulse wave propagation time calculation unit (330) that finds the pulse wave propagation time from the time difference between the photoelectric pulse wave signal peak and the electrocardiographic signal peak; a sleep state determination unit (340) that determines that the body is not in a suitable state for sleep if the pulse wave propagation time is no more than a prescribed threshold value; and a forearm heating unit (51) that increases the temperature of the forearm if a determination has been made that the body is not in a suitable state for sleep. |
