An image pickup apparatus of the present disclosure comprises: an image pickup unit that generates image data; a record unit that records the image data acquired by the image pickup unit; a display unit that can display a live-view image, which is a real time moving image of the image data acquired by the image pickup unit, and an after-view image, which is a still image recorded in the record unit; and a control unit that controls the image pickup unit and the display unit. The control unit causes the image pickup unit to continuously perform an image pickup operation in a first period and thereafter causes the image pickup unit to continuously perform the image pickup operation in a second period longer than the first period. While the image pickup unit is performing the image pickup operation in the first period, the control unit causes the display unit to exhibit a first display state. While the image pickup unit is performing the image pickup operation in the second period, the control unit causes the display unit to exhibit a second display state different from the first display state. |
