The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, containing homoegonol as an active ingredient. Specifically, the homoegnaol exhibited a reduction effect of neutrophils serving as a mediation factor in the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease animal model induced with a tobacco extract, and significantly reduced the number of inflammatory cells in the lung tissue by suppressing the production of MCP-2, which promotes the migration of inflammatory cells, and TNF-α, which is the inflammatory cytokine. Therefore, the homoegonol significantly suppresses the inflammatory response in the lung tissue through the inhibition of an inflammatory mediator, and thus can be favorably used as an active ingredient of the pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
