In this method, an electrolyte membrane for use in polymer electrolyte fuel cells is sent out of an unwinding roll and wound on a wind-up roll and is thus continuously conveyed at a constant speed in a roll-to-roll manner. A catalytic ink is applied from a first coating nozzle to a surface of the electrolyte membrane, and the catalytic ink is dried with a first drying oven to form a lower catalytic layer. During the drying, the catalytic layer cracks to some degree. Next, a catalytic ink is applied from a second coating nozzle to the lower catalytic layer, and this catalytic ink is dried with a second drying oven to form an upper catalytic layer. The cracks in the lower catalytic layer can be eliminated by covering with the upper catalytic layer. |
