The disclosed polymer has a pyrrolidinone ring structure in the main chain, the pyrrolidinone ring structure being, e.g., a structure shown by formula (1). This polymer is a novel polymer having a ring structure in the main chain. R1 in formula (1) represents a hydrogen atom or -COR4 group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or -COOR5 group, and R3 represents a hydrogen atom, methyl group, or -NHCOR6 group. R4, R5, and R6 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, methyl group, phenyl group, C2-C18 linear alkyl group, or C3-C18 cycloalkyl group.
