An electric discharge machining system equipped with: a surface plate for placing a workpiece thereon; a machining tank that is disposed so as to surround the surface plate, stores a working fluid therein, is constructed so that at least a part thereof is made into a box-shaped liftable machining tank that can be moved in a vertical direction, and has a drain port that is formed in a lifting wall of the liftable machining tank so as to allow the working fluid to overflow therethrough; a lifting device for raising and lowering the liftable machining tank; a sub-tank for receiving working fluid overflowing from the machining tank; a slit that is disposed in an end wall of the sub-tank so as to allow a connection member for connecting the liftable machining tank to the lifting device to pass therethrough; and a seal that is disposed in a gap between the liftable machining tank and an inner wall of the sub-tank so as to prevent the working fluid in the machining tank from leaking into the sub-tank. The electric discharge machining system performs machining by generating electric discharge in a minute gap between the workpiece and an electrode with the workpiece being immersed in the working fluid stored in the machining tank. In this electric discharge machining system, a slit-shaped receiving opening is provided at a bottom part on the inner side of the lifting wall of the liftable machining tank so as to receive working fluid dripping along the inner lifting wall from the seal and recover working fluid into the liftable machining tank. |
