Provided is a water pump having increased ability to supply water to a sliding surface of a sliding bearing arranged inside the pump, and increased low friction properties and abrasion resistance of the sliding bearing are increased. The water pump (1) takes in and discharges circulation water through a pump chamber due to the rotation of an impeller (4), and is equipped with: the impeller (4); a shaft (5) for fixing the impeller (4); a sliding bearing (8) for supporting the impeller (4) such that rotation around the shaft (5) is possible; thrust plates (9, 10) that slide with the respective end surfaces of the sliding bearing (8), and a casing (6) and a cover (7) that form the pump chamber in which the impeller (4) is housed. The water pump is characterized by the inclusion of at least one means that is selected from the following means and that uses the relative rotation of the thrust plates (9,10) and the sliding bearing (8) during the rotation of the impeller (4): an intake means that takes in the circulation water from one end surface side of the sliding bearing (8) to the inside-diameter surface side of the bearing; and a discharge means that discharges the circulation water from the bore side of the sliding bearing (8) to the other end surface side of the sliding bearing (8). |
