An automobile body structure, wherein a center pillar (15) connecting a side sill (12) and a roof side rail (16b) is configured from a pair of CFRP layered plates (56) facing inward and outward in the vehicle width direction, and a plurality of metal plates (57) bonding the pair of CFRP layered plates (56) together in the vehicle width direction to form a closed cross-section, and therefore, when a collision load of a side collision is incurred, the compressive load and tensile load acting on the vehicle-widthwise inner surface and vehicle-widthwise outer surface of the center pillar (15) are supported by the carbon fibers of the pair of CFRP layered plates (56), and the metal plates (57) inhibit out-of-plane deformation in the front and rear surfaces of the center pillar (15) which are not easily supported by the pair of CFRP layered plates (56). This makes it possible to reduce the weight and increase the strength of the center pillar (15). |
