?The invention relates to thermal insulation technology, and specifically relates to a method for thermally insulating reservoirs, especially reservoirs which are vertical, made of steel, have a volume of between 200 and 20,000 cubic meters, and are intended for storing petroleum and petroleum products. The proposed method for thermally insulating reservoirs involves preparing a foundation with elements for thermally insulating the bottom of a reservoir, installing the reservoir on the prepared foundation, and installing thermal insulation in the wall and roof of the reservoir. Supporting, stress-relieving belts are installed on the wall and roof of the reservoir, forming tiers; the tiers are filled-in using blocks of foamed glass, while providing for expansion joints; a coating layer made of metal sheets is installed on the outer surface of the blocks; the foamed-glass blocks of the bottom tier are removable so as to provide access to a circumferential weld between the wall and the base, whereas, in the other tiers, the blocks are affixed to the surface of the reservoir and are connected to one another using an adhesive material. The technical result consists in providing for the safety and durability of the thermal insulation of a reservoir in the presence of loads acting upon the structure thereof, said loads caused by filling and draining raw material, and also by climatic factors, while maintaining the temperature conditions of the product being stored. In addition, the use of the proposed method protects soil against the thermal effects of the product being stored in the reservoir.
