摘要 Provided are methods of predicting the likelihood that a colorectal polyp in a subject will develop into colorectal cancer. Further provided are methods of increasing the likelihood of detecting colorectal cancer at an early stage, the methods including predicting the likelihood that a colorectal polyp in a subject will develop into colorectal cancer, and when there is an increased likelihood that the colorectal polyp will develop into colorectal cancer, the frequency of colonoscopies administered to the subject are increased. Further provided are kits for predicting the likelihood that a colorectal polyp in a subject will develop into colorectal cancer.

A method of predicting the likelihood that a colorectal polyp in a subject will develop into colorectal cancer, the method comprising: determining an expression level of at least one gene selected from MUC17, VSIG1, and CTSE in a sample obtained from the colorectal polyp; comparing the expression level to a control value associated with that same gene; and predicting the likelihood that the colorectal polyp will develop into colorectal cancer based on the relative difference between the expression level and the control value associated with each gene, wherein an increase in the expression level at least one of MUC17, VSIG1, and CTSE relative to the control value associated with each gene correlates with an increased likelihood of the colorectal polyp developing into colorectal cancer.
