A shift control device (10) for an automatic transmission (100) is provided with an automatic shift mode and a manual shift mode in which shift operation instructed by manual operation by the driver is performed. The shift control device (10) is provided with: a vehicle-to-vehicle distance measurement means (30) for measuring the distance between the host vehicle and a vehicle ahead; an accelerator opening degree measurement means (32) for measuring the accelerator opening degree for an engine; a vehicle-to-vehicle distance assessing means (34, S2) for assessing whether or not the measured vehicle-to-vehicle distance is at a predetermined setting value or less when downshift is instructed by manual operation by the driver and the measured accelerator opening degree is in a fully closed position (S1); and a target shift position determination means (38, S3) for determining a target shift position based on the vehicle-to-vehicle distance when the vehicle-to-vehicle distance is at the setting value or less. The shift control device performs downshift to the determined target shift position. |
