PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a functional element capable of suppressing unevenness in thickness of a functional layer having linear thin line parts and wide-area regions each having width larger than width of the thin line part.SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of a functional element includes a functional layer formation process of applying coating liquid for functional layer formation on a substrate, and forming a functional layer. The functional layer includes: linear thin line parts; and wide-area regions each having width larger than width of the thin line part. Each of the wide-area regions is composed of multiple wide area region constituent thin lines each having a width substantially equal to the width of the thin line part, and the multiple wide area region constituent thin lines are connected to each other and also to the thin line parts.
