The present invention is capable of using a unique identification number and increasing the precision of detection of abnormal media. A banknote teller machine (10) in a cash automatic teller machine (1) confirms whether or not a banknote having the same serial number is present among transaction banknotes, by comparing each transaction serial number obtained by reading the serial number for each transaction banknote to other transaction serial numbers. As a result, the banknote teller machine (10) is capable of determining that a banknote is counterfeit, if a plurality of counterfeit notes having the same serial number are among the transaction banknotes, as a result of comparing the transaction serial numbers, even if a determination of a counterfeit note cannot be made by comparing the serial numbers and a counterfeit note serial number list. The banknote teller machine (10) is capable of preventing handover of counterfeit notes to users in such cases, by sending the transaction banknote together with all other transaction banknotes to a reject compartment (17). |
