PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery overcoming the disadvantage of delay in initial activation, high in capacity and fast in initial activation, in an alkaline battery in which α-nickel hydroxide is applied for nickel hydroxide.SOLUTION: Nickel hydroxide for an alkaline battery includes α-nickel hydroxide particles and &bgr;-nickel hydroxide particles, the ratio of &bgr;-nickel hydroxide being 50 mass% or less with respect to the total quantity of nickel hydroxide. In the nickel hydroxide, the average particle size of α-nickel hydroxide particles is smaller than that of &bgr;-nickel hydroxide particles. |
