A process for separating carbon dioxide from a fluid containing carbon dioxide, NO2, and at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen comprises the steps of separating at least part of the fluid into a carbon dioxide enriched stream, a carbon dioxide depleted stream comprising CO2 and at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen and a NO2 enriched stream and recycling said NO2 enriched stream upstream of the separation step.

1. A process for separating NO2 from a CO2 and NO2-containing fluid, said process comprising the steps of:
feeding the fluid comprising CO2, NO2, and at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen, to a rectifying distillation column; withdrawing a first gaseous stream from the rectifying column that is enriched in CO2 and deficient in NO2 relative to the fluid comprising CO2, NO2, and at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen; withdrawing a liquid stream from the rectifying column that is enriched in NO2 relative to the fluid comprising CO2, NO2, and at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen; feeding the NO2-enriched liquid stream to a fluid separation membrane; withdrawing a second gaseous stream comprising a permeate gas from the membrane that is enriched in NO2 and deficient in CO2 relative to the liquid stream fed to the membrane; withdrawing a non-permeate liquid stream from the membrane that is deficient in NO2 and enriched in CO2 relative to the liquid stream fed to the membrane; and recycling the non-permeate liquid stream to the rectifying column.
