<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional substrate-manufacturing method having achieved a sufficiently high productivity.SOLUTION: A functional substrate-manufacturing method comprises: a reinforcing step of reinforcing a front surface and a rear surface of a glass plate thereby to manufacture a reinforced glass plate 10; a functional layer-forming step of forming a functional layer 18 for giving an additional function to the glass plate, on at least one surface of the reinforced glass plate 10; and a cutting step of cutting off the functional substrate from the reinforced glass plate 10 by irradiating the reinforced glass plate 10 locally with a laser beam 20, by moving the irradiation position of the laser beam 20 in the reinforced glass plate 10, and by extending a crack 30 penetrating through the reinforced glass plate 10 in the thickness direction. The cutting step heats an intermediate layer 17 locally at a temperature at or lower than an annealing point with the laser beam 20, and generates either a tensile stress lower than an internal residual tensile stress, or a compression stress CT, locally in the intermediate layer 17 thereby to control the extension rate of the crack 30 due to the internal residual tensile stress.</p> |
