A pipe-in-pipe system, including: an outer pipe (103); an inner pipe (101) disposed within the outer pipe (103); a mid line assembly (215) configured to connect the outer pipe (103) and the inner pipe (101) to a current source (109); and an annulus region (105) between an outer surface of the inner pipe (101) and an inner surface of the outer pipe (103), wherein the annulus region (105) includes a conductive or semiconductive electrical path configured to carry current between the inner pipe (101) and the outer pipe (103).
