462,157. Making galvanic battery plates. PRITCHETT & GOLD & E.P.S. CO., and PRESTON, K. Sept. 3, 1936, No. 24107. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Perforating.-Holes are punched in an electrode plate for a storage battery to receive the active material by a series of operations in each of which a group of holes is punched, distortion of the walls of the holes being prevented by inserting in the holes adjacent to a portion of the plate to be punched plugs or projections which may be carried on a movable part of the punching apparatus. A cast antimonylead plate A is reduced in thickness by rolling, before or during which operation the plate is heated. A row of holes B is punched in a single operation, and the rows B<1>, B2, &c., are then successively punched, distortion being prevented by plugs which fill the holes in the row previously punched. The plate may be further rolled after punching, the sides being finally trimmed and the lugs A<1>, A2 punched. |
