The invention relates to a method for transmitting digital images (B, B') from a series of images for which an image sequence (BR) of the images (B, B') is specified. The series of images is stored on a server (SE) in the form of segments (SG1, SG2, SG3), and each segment (SG1, SG2, SG3) comprises one or more images (B, B') which are adjacent to one another according to the image sequence (BR). A client (CL) requests images (B, B') from the server (SE) on the basis of the segments (SG1, SG2, SG3), and the server then at least partly transmits the images (B, B') from the requested segments (SG1, SG2, SG3) to the client (CL), wherein the images (B, B') are stored in a buffer (MB) in the client and are at least partly reproduced. The client (CL) checks the request of additional images (B, B') from the server (SE) at the time of the reproduction of a current image (B, B') on the basis of a specified priority rule. As part of the check of the request of each additional image (B, B'), the client (CL) requests a segment (SG1, SG2, SG3) which comprises the respective additional image (B, B') if the respective additional image (B, B') is not present in the buffer (MB). The specified priority rule is designed such that the request of additional images (B, B') which follow the current image (B, B') both in the direction of the image sequence (BR) as well as opposite the direction of the image sequence (BR) is first checked and/or the request of at least one additional image (B, B') which corresponds to the current image (B, B') at a higher image quality than that of the current image (B, B') is first checked by the client (CL). |
