<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyketide and a gene for synthesizing the same. <P>SOLUTION: A nucleic acid molecule encoding a polypeptide needed for the bio-synthesis of epothilone is separated from Sorangium cellulosum. A method for producing epothilone in the recombinant host transformed with the gene of this invention is disclosed.
