<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire grid polarizing plate which has fine irregular grids having a pitch of 150 nm or less, has no constitutional restriction, moreover, exhibits an excellent polarization degree over the wide band of visible light region and can protect the fine irregular grids. <P>SOLUTION: The wire grid polarizing plate is primarily composed of: a transparent base material 1 having grid-like protrusions 1a; a metal wire layer 2 disposed on a region including the grid-like protrusions 1a of the base material 1; and a protective film 3 having an adhesive layer 3b in contact with tip parts of the metal wire layer 2.
