PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for inhibiting sometimes occurring extreme reduction of antiseptic effects in the antiseptic combination of an antimicrobial polyhydric alcohol with phenoxyethanol. SOLUTION: The external preparation for the skin comprising (1) phospholipid and/or polyoxyethylene addition type nonionic surfactant and (2) the phenoxyethanol further comprises (3) a phosphoric ester-based chelating agent. The phospholipid is preferably lecithin or lysolecithin, and the polyoxyethylene addition type nonionic surfactant is preferably a polyoxysorbitan fatty acid ester. The phosphoric ester-based chelating agent is preferably the one selected from hydroxyethanediphosphonic acid, aminotrimethylenephosphonic acid, phosphonobutanetricarboxylic acid, phytic acid, triphosphonomethylamine oxide and physiological acceptable salts thereof.
