PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device which can correctly judge whether or not an ink amount in an ink cartridge is a predetermined amount. SOLUTION: The ink is stored in a main tank 70 of the ink cartridge 50. A sensor arm 150 is fixed to be able to oscillate in the main tank 70, having a shielding part 157. When the sensor arm 150 is oscillated, the shielding part 157 advances into a detecting part 75 or comes out of the detecting part 75. An optical sensor 203 detects the shielding part 157 which has moved to the detecting part 75. Whether or not the ink amount is the predetermined amount is judged on the basis of the detection result of the optical sensor 203. The sensor arm 150 is hindered from being correctly oscillated when bubbles adhere to the sensor arm 150.
